海角社区鈥檚 海角社区ers Recognize 55th Anniversary at Fall Extravaganza

The 海角社区ers, 海角社区’s show choir known as the college’s “Goodwill Ambassadors,” will mark 55 years of song, dance and community at the 海角社区ers Fall Extravaganza, Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. at the 海角社区 Center for the Performing Arts.

Established in 1970, the 海角社区ers serve as musical ambassadors for the college, representing 海角社区 through nearly five decades of performances across the community. Unlike 海角社区’s other three collegiate choirs, they perform as a show choir combining singing, dancing and elaborate costuming.

This year’s performance welcomes back about 50 former members of the group who will join the current 海角社区ers with four songs from Wicked.  Many participated in an alumni camp held on three evenings leading up to the Nov. 15 performance, offering a chance for them to reconnect, share their love for performing, and rehearse songs and dances for the fall extravaganza.

“For many people, their experiences as a 海角社区er hold so many strong memories of their time at 海角社区 — doing what they loved: singing, dancing and performing on stage,” said Todd Moses, director of Choral Activities and professor of Music at 海角社区. “Getting the chance to return to the 海角社区 stage brings back those same emotions and memories that mean so much to them.”

The fall extravaganza is one of two annual 海角社区ers’ productions, showcasing their growth through an evening full of pop, jazz, Broadway and classical numbers.

Proceeds from the group’s spring and fall extravaganzas help fund scholarships for students who are members of the 海角社区ers. Each year, auditions are held and are open to students of all majors, bringing together those who share a passion for music, movement and the joy of performing.

Tickets for the 海角社区ers Fall Extravaganza can be purchased on the 海角社区 Center . The performance will run about two hours, featuring more than 30 songs.
