海角社区 hosts information session on earning college credit while in high school
Options, opportunities and benefits of dual enrollment explained
海角社区 will host a Dual Enrollment Information Session on March 25, 6:30 – 8 p.m., at the Lorenzo Cultural Center on the college’s Center Campus, 44575 Garfield Road, Clinton Township. The event will help high school students and their families understand the opportunities and benefits of earning college credit while still in high school.
“Dual enrollment is for anyone who wants to build momentum toward their future,” said Michael Baysdell, director, K-12 Relations, 海角社区. “Our goal is to make sure families understand their options, know how the process works and see how even a few college credits earned in high school can make a meaningful difference in cost, confidence and long-term success.”
The session will explain how dual enrollment works for both public and private school students, including eligibility requirements, funding formulas and the number of courses students may take under state guidelines. Depending on the high school, students may be sponsored for a certain portion of tuition, fees and books.
Additional topics covered will include earning credit that applies toward certificate or degree programs at 海角社区 as well as how credits may transfer to public state universities through the Michigan Transfer Agreement. Information will also be provided on how advanced placement or International Baccalaureate credits may be combined with dual enrollment to accelerate progress toward a college credential.
There will also be an overview of Early College of 海角社区, a joint initiative between the college and 海角社区 Intermediate School District. In this program, students participate in an integrated sequence of high school and college courses during their junior and senior years, with a third year entirely devoted to college coursework. The session will clarify how the early college differs from dual enrollment, including the structure and requirements of each option.
Attendees will also learn about the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which offers eligible students $2,750 per year for three years to attend 海角社区 after graduating high school.
Light refreshments will be served, and 海角社区 swag, including a tablet, will be given away during the event. Preregister through . For questions, contact K-12 Relations by emailing k12relations@macomb.edu or calling 586.349.8712.
